PER-206-B_Amazonia: Articulation and design of Phase II of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Programme for the Rural Amazonia

Currently, the Water Fund has no specific programme in Peru. However, the project «Articulation and design of phase II of the drinking water and sanitation programme for the rural Amazonia», financed directly by AECID, is being managed. Given the Peruvian administration’s interest in implementing a second phase of a large-scale rural water and sanitation programme that was previously carried out, its objective is to prepare the necessary pre-investment studies —in the technical, economic, social, institutional and environmental fields— for a potential future intervention in the Rural Amazonia.
This initiative is implemented by Peru’s National Rural Sanitation Programme (PNSR) and has received a grant of €125,000 from Cooperación Española. The programme began implementation in 2024 and plans to assess the feasibility of at least 50 water systems in the region, incorporating a gender approach and attention to and respect for cultural relevance.
