The coordination of actors through partnerships, in line with the spirit of SDG 17, which aims to create a «Global Partnership for Development». In this respect, the Fund has served as a bridge and catalyst for joint initiatives in the sector.
An impact that goes far beyond the FCAS’ own grants
Since its creation in 2008, the Cooperation Fund for Water and Sanitation has been positioning itself as a unifier of other funders, achieving an impact that goes far beyond its own grants. In recent years, the FCAS has promoted the generation of larger programmes, articulated with funding from other entities and through the coordination of instruments and stakeholders (EU delegated funds, reimbursable cooperation from FONPRODE and other financial institutions, such as the IDB or the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF), and bilateral funds from AECID), creating new combined operations. All these water and sanitation initiatives that are configured around the FCAS constitute what is called the Great Fund and allows the impact of the original Water Fund to be multiplied.
Thus, large operations have been formed to maximise the impact of interventions, contribute more significantly to sector transformation and simplify management for countries.
